How To Use Number Pieces
Working with Number Pieces
Tap or click pieces onto the board. Then drag to move them. Tap or click a piece to select it.
Drag on the background to select multiple pieces.
Change the length of an edge piece by dragging the arrow.
Change the starting set of pieces to the basic or advanced set.
Toolbar & Keyboard Shortcuts
| Icon | Tool | Shortcut | Description |

 | Start Over | esc | Clear all pieces, drawings, and text. |
 | Break Pieces | B | Break pieces apart into the next smallest size pieces. |
 | Join Pieces | J | Join pieces together into the next larger piece. |
   | Change Color | N/A | Change the color of selected pieces. |
 | Duplicate | D | Duplicate selected pieces. |
 | Rotate | R | Rotate selected pieces. |
 | Zoom | Z | Zoom the workspace in and out. |
 | Math Text Tool | T | Open a keypad for creating expressions and equations. Using the keyboard to add numbers and symbols also works. Tip: Double-tap your text to edit it. |
 | Drawing Tools | W | Open drawing tool and show the drawing layer. |
 | Trash | backspace, delete | Delete selected items. |
 | Info | I | View how-to and other information about this app. |

| 1x1 counter | 1 | Add a single counter using the number 1 key. |
| 1x10 vertical counter | 2 | Add a 1x10 vertical counter using the number 2 key. |
| 1x10 horizontal counter | 3 | Add a 1x10 horizontal counter using the number 3 key. |
| 10x10 counter | 4 | Add a 10x10 counter using the number 4 key. |
| Vertical ruler piece | 5 | Add a vertical ruler piece using the number 5 key. |
| Horizontal ruler piece | 6 | Add a horizontal ruler piece using the number 6 key. |
Overview
Number Pieces helps students develop a deeper understanding of place value while building their computation skills with multi-digit numbers. Students can:
- Use number pieces to represent multi-digit numbers, regroup, add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
- Use edge pieces to display the dimensions of arrays created with number pieces.
- Use the drawing and math text tools to label representations and show their understanding.
